I think on some cars you have to fit a new brake switch for the brake pedal as well. I did this on a Vauxhall Astra a few years ago - the local vauxhall dealer said you couldn't retrofit cruise control and that it was a new car option only, so I bought the stalk, switch and a copy of opcom plus a lead and coded it in and it worked fine
