The 4.8 is not totally immune to cylinder scoring, I've personally only seen one over the past couple of years,that was a particularly abused example and heard of a couple of others. The issue does not appear to be anywhere near as bad as the 4.5 though, also Porsche changed their engine supplier for the 4.8 from the 4.5 which seems to have improved reliability. Some of the 4.8 failures will also be down to owner error, these engines are very sensitive to oil level, grade and fuel octane.
Porsche aren't the only ones to be affected by this problem, it's throughout the industry. The really annoying thing is that none of the manufacturers admit to it and pick up the bill!
