Funnily enough, your near neighbour (me) also has a similar cooling issue. I can run it on idle all day and it stays at 90. And out on the open road it sits at 90. But then, if I slow down in traffic or climb a steep hill, the temperature rises. Or if I then sit back at idle it also rises. And it started to happen after a belt change (with a new thermostat). It was very unnerving initially, but eventually I let the temp rise - it goes up to around 100 and eventually it falls again. It’s been like that for a couple of years an, inititially I was doing a 75 mile daily commute.
Not sure if anything would show up on VagCom, but if you fancy a careful drive to Redmile, I’ll plug it in for you (I’m up to my ears in decorating, so can’t come to you just now).
