It doesn't need plugging in. Although it may well be possible to code them out? i don't know.
The little plugs may be shot or have let water in and the connections are not very good or a wire has parted maybe.
I get the same trouble normally as i'm driving, a few bumps and BEEP! One of my plugs has been damaged.
I have seen a repair or it where you can wire it back to ground, obviously the only thing with that is it will never warn you of low pad wear agian but it's weather you need it too i suppose.
