It's surreal when a TV crew swoops on your town. It's happened a few times here over the years (in Ramsbottom). Most of the houses here are old stone terraced properties and we have a heritage steam railway, so we seem to have become the 'go to' town for TV and film-makers who are looking for an 'old northern' backdrop. Much or the TV series
Exile (with Olivia Coleman) was filmed around here. And, more recently, the movie
A Monster Calls.

I drove through the centre of the town a few times while they were filming A Monster Calls. There were dozens of movie trucks parked down every side street and enormous lighting rigs hung from each of the street lights, but not a crew member or actor to be seen anywhere. It was quite surreal. It went on for days, with most of the filming taking place late at night or in the early hours.
