Probably by now... My 13 year old D3 can brake with no vacuum.
You know how the EPB applies the service brake instead of the electric caliper park brake when moving over ~3mph? Well once, I was on a hill and decided to see if it worked without servo vacuum, so I turned off the engine and rolled in N and kept pumping the brake pedal until it went hard and stopped being useful, allowed speed to build up and applied EPB control and the service brakes wapplied normally with no vacuum and brought the car to a sudden halt. It must be using an electric hydraulic pump.
