I don't recall it being an issue on mine.
All the technical difficulty is on the right hand side.
I'm pretty sure it dropped straight back in, but it's been a while.
Is the float in a good orientation?
Is the big top rubber seal seated on the top of the float housing reasonably snug? I have heard these can stretch and deform slightly, which may hinder correct reinstallation - in which case you may need to replace it with the kit from Audi (assuming you can still buy it).

2009 Volvo XC90 V8 R Design - has a louder more obnoxious exhaust than the S8, sounds great! Love this thing - Q7 was double the price, and certainly not double the car!
