If you remove the internals you will find a PCB and a bunch of plastic parts. In my case the previous owner seemed to have spilt coke on the controls, so the plastic was sticky, I just soaked all the plastic parts in soapy water, washed by hand, rinsed with clean water and then finally rinsed with IPA to speed the drying time.

That said, if the PCB is also contaminated, you could possibly clean with IPA but the issues are likely to be beyond cleaning if it was powered up whilst wet/sticky.
