Basically the diagnostic software is free to download but the lead with the dongle is around £250.
Best thing is to first find someone near you with the lead/software. Many on here are very happy to help. There is a list on a sticky at the top of this thread with names and locations of VCDS owners. Have a browse and maybe some generous soul will come to your aid.
