Just a little (late) follow-up on this; today I finally investigated something that has been in the back of my mind for ages. When I had the central air intake cover off to look at my varying fan I noticed a couple of connectors in there and wondered if one might be relevant. One was for the fan (wiggling that cured my fan) but the other I didn't identify.

This made me question "Is there now a connector for the ACP somewhere else that is easy to get at?"
i.e. Has it just been moved in the FL loom? It seems not, it's been eliminated compared to PF.

It is presumably possible to disconnect the loom at the actual pump motor, but to get at that I think you've probably got to take the whole ECU box out. So my wire-snipping procedure is probably the easiest fix.

The wiring pair from the pump joins another 3-wire set (probably for an actuator in the pump unit) then disappears between the air intake box and engine bulkhead.
That 3-wire set does have a connector, as did the 2-wire pump pair PF.

That 5-wire loom then reappears near the wiper motor, merges into a bigger loom then goes through into the cabin.

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
