Its possible with the right pokey things. I was able to disconnect it from the motor in-situ by pushing the connector tab with one screwdriver and pushing the connector off the motor with another one.

I have noticed my car takes an excessive amount of time to get heat through the vents after the engine is warm. I put this down to coolant flow through the engine not being overly keen on also flowing through the valve block, but the heater in mine has a bit of a mind of its own anyway so it could be something else.
