Due to the way it interacts with the front lighting unit and switches you can get some very weird behaviour. Do any of the lights in it work, e.g. when operating the switches on it or the front unit? If not it could just be disconnected or have failed bulbs.

Alarm horn is a common problem, what does a VCDS scan say (probably low voltage)? Almost certainly interior rechargeable batteries in the horn are shot, quite probably corroding the circuits as well.
I found dry joints inside the vacuum pump for central locking.

I have since removed centre light and there is visible corrosion so I'll try and clean it all up and check soldering too. They only come on when I operate front switch.

Is the rechargeable battery inside the actual horn? Because low voltage was at the plug itself?
