Hi Andrew

I was in Glasgow two weeks ago and took a walk to The Clutha.
I looked in the window of the pop-up charity shop (set up to aid the victims and families) opposite the Holiday Inn and looked at the murals on the wall of the scene of the tragedy, but I had no idea that there was a bar (The Clutha Bar) inside there still. I just saw the Victoria Bar next to it.
I don't think you'll have any issues going in for a drink. My experiences from when I lived in Glasgow, were that the folks are amongst the friendliest you could come across - especially from my experience in the bars.
I know this is not the view of all (ask Jim)
A few yards past the Holiday Inn is The Scotia - Glasgow's oldest pub from 1792 (had to look at the photo I took on my phone for that date).
I drank in there decades ago so I've no idea what it's like now.

If you're rambling about town, pop into the Princes Square Shopping Centre if you've not been in there before. It's on Buchanan St just two streets from the station. I love it in there. It's not huge but it's nice to look at and there are some nice eateries on the bottom floor.

And if you don't go for your seafood, I would highly recommend The Western Club for a meal.
Vera and I wanted somewhere quiet, but with a quality feel, to have a meal the other week and we traipsed around most of the high-vaulted ceiling restaurants in the city centre before almost giving up. The high-vaulted ceiling places seemed very busy - thus popular - but were a bit too noisy. However, when we got to The Western Club (off Buchanan St - Exchange Square) we were puzzled.
We couldn't see in and the door was locked. There was a buzzer and a sign asking for it to be pressed if you wanted the restaurant. In two minds about whether to go anywhere else (as this seemed a bit weird), we rang the buzzer and asked if we needed to book a table. Apparently, we didn't and a smartly dressed young waitress was dispatched from the upper floor to meet us in the lobby and escort us to the first floor.
There was an eerie silence to the place and as we entered there was only a few other couples who were dining but this didn't put us off as the place was luxurious. We sat next to the window with a view of the Gallery of Modern Art.
The food was extremely good and I'll forget about the pricey bill long before I'll forget about the tastes and the ambience.
I'm looking forward to going there again (it's actually a private members club next to the Pink shirts shop) when I'm next in town.
And if you walk from Buchannan Street into Exchange Square on Royal Bank Place you'll see a clothes shop called AllSaints Spitalfields. I would be interested to know if you are as impressed with their window display as much as I am. It blew my mind a bit
