Sounds like one of the AC vent direction motors is cycling. You may wish to invest in a bit of software called VagCom from Rosstech to diagnose problems like these. There is a freeware version that will diagnose the problem but not fix it.
A cheap lead of E-bay will do what you need although the full kit is the dogs danglys.
Alternativly ask on here with you location and there may be someone with VagCom nearby who will do a diagnostic.
