The RNS-E hardware can handle both a reversing camera and a TV tuner, but I think its an Audi firmware limitation. Its been a few years, but iirc the two were never an option together

The coding (documented by Ross-Tech) shows the iPod/USB interface as the same coding as the CD changer, so I guess it's "plug and play" if you ever found and installed one.
The full AMI "flag" is in a separate digit of the coding (along with Satellite Radio and AUX-in).
And as I think some of my earlier comments imply, I agree with your view on Audi firmware limitations re TV/camera. 
(And of course about direct head unit connection being best)
The "backup" camera is actually on/off in Adaptation channel 4, but I've no idea where/how you can connect it separately. I wonder if you could play games by recoding the unit to be a Lamborghini.....
Edit: The USB dock for an A4 B7 is 8E0 857 925E vs the iPod being …….925D.

(A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! 
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
