My guess, after looking at the info here and here, would be that the difference is probably just the bushes and that AG is an earlier part number. In the ETKA link, the AG part's bushes are listed as "use if required", whereas the AN part states "also use", leading me to think the difference might just be that the AG part came supplied with bushes while the AN part did not. Personally I'd probably take a chance and order the AG part.

On a number of occasions I've ordered alternative parts with a different suffix that turn out to be identical to the original part.

By the way, if you find your rear diff bracket bushes are knackered too (as mine were) and you can't find a good D2 bracket (4D0599285), I can confirm a D3 bracket fits perfectly (4E0599285)
