Fair point I see where your coming from and your correct , I work at an independent and if you come to our garage we would quote on the job no problem but if the ' other garages' diagnosis of the fault was wrong the job is chargeable as per quote .
What I'm getting at to all , is if you go to any garage and say can you fit such and such and this does not fix your problem the onus is on you , but if you ask the garage to carry out investigations / diagnostics and they get it wrong it's the repairers problem .
Just back to your problem .....the clickity click noise ......reminds me of a dry cv joint ??
