IT; I don't think any MMI level added support for the Hybrid TV; it was a plug replacement for the analog TV. And as you said, it shouldn't need recoding [although it might if it came from a non-UK car or an A6].
I suspect it's some sort of connection issue, which is why I'd like to see an optical scan of the MOST bus and an AUtoscan [which will tell me the MMI level - Control Head FW level - and the TV part number details ]...
