It is called Besiktning in Swedish.
In the past it used to be run by the Bilprovningen, who had a monopoly.
2010 that changed, and other companies could offer the service, in a free market.

A vehicle has to be inspected according to the last digit on the number plate.
Mine ends with a 1. Giving me a window from January 1st +2 months - march 31st.
This rule changes May 20th, which I wasn't aware of until now.
Another EU law adaption.

A new car is to be inspected at the latest 36 months old.
The second time at the latest 24 months after the first inspection.
The following inspections at the latest 14 months from the last inspection. (New)

I suppose it is basically the same as a MOT.
A mandatory annual test of safety, road worthiness and exhaust emissions for older vehicles

edit: emission values on my S8
CO 0.3 (0.5)
CO2500 0.3 (0.3)
HC 87 (100)
Lamda 1.02 (0.97-1.03)
