Sound won't improve, it will sound awful -ish and no errors from my experience when removing two small (past cats) and middle boxes and changing rear ones as well and from experience on my mate's 4.2TDi which had back boxes removed and and straight pipes through. No errors on his either
I was surprising how much louder car was after removing middle silencer and two small ones. New rear boxes thats a different story  ....it's like a having a Mozart enclosed in a metal box playing amazing tunes all the way each journey
