I will be ordering coolant reservoir for preventive maintenance next time I do something with the car. They are prone to leakage where the header pipe enters the reservoir from top. The weak point is steel pipe to plastic junction. The places wears out eventually due to temperature stresses. I heard some horror stories about sudden leakages. So you done the right thing.
The new reservoir is not mutually exclusive with this cover.
