In case of bulb failure perhaps?
Their reasoning might that if the warning bulb were to fail before the airbag you'd receive no warning.
Problem with that of course is the bulbs are now more likely to fail, being on all the time, and probably rarely get replaced.
What's needed is another warning light that warns you of warning bulb failure
