some fluid types are not compatible - brake fluids to different standards can destroy caliper seals if used in the wrong application.

Used to work with a Lucas Girling brake engineer who basically said unless you were going to a silicone based fluid to stick to precisely what the manufacturer specified to avoid the risk of incompatibility.

I'm sure you're correct at a practical level as the DOT5 on fluids are I think silicone based but I'd rather not take the chance.
