The inlet manifolds have butterfly's in them to help with low speed running , they are controlled by a motor that does a 'sweep ' for a self check .
Sometimes the linkage bar falls off or sometimes the small link arms that stick out of the manifolds the plastic gets broken so the ecm sees a different sweep range from each bank .
It a well known fault on the 3l , there are repair kits but if the manifolds are broken on the travel stops the repair kits are no good .
I have seen full manifolds with the drive motors for sale on eBay , new units but non genuine , how good these are I don't know , seem to remember new genuine units are around £300 per bank iirc .
