Sounds a bit strange
just cut the blue and white wires in the black sheath going to the thigh pad

then use your multimeter set to ohms and see if current passes in the pair going into the thigh pad , should be no circuit [ reads 1 for no circuit ]suggesting the pad was faulty ....tuck this into the thigh pad , now out of use

next join the other ends of the the blue and white wires to make the circuit ; dashboard warning light should now go out when you turn on the ignition , as should the warning sign in the bottom of the rear view mirror

just for safety ~i disconnected the battery first of all , probably not required but who knows

worked fine for me
