Default Audi A8 D3 2004 4.2 Quattro SE

Ladies & Gents,

Its time to sell the D3, I just miss the D2 to much and want one again.

She is a very good car with lots spent on her but its time to sell and move on. A couple of problems need sorting (Heater Matrix flush & Sqeeky Anti roll Bar Bush) but all good apart from that.

I have spent more on her than I could get a D2 for! Anyway, would like close to £4000 but realise that may be a little steep.

The eBay advert (Sorry I know its not suitable for the wise people here!)

2003 Audi A8 D3 4.2 V8 Petrol Quattro SE

Excellent runner and has been a very good car that’s never let me down. Most importantly this is a full and genuine Quattro SE, nothing changed modified or messed with.

The car is backed up by good service history so the high miles should not be a problem and the car drives as if it’s done half of those. I have a folder complete with lots of invoices and bills from Audi and other dealers showing the money that has been spent on this car.

The interior is excellent and everything works, no rips or tears in the seats and the Air Conditioning is still nice and cold.

This car is not a 10,000 mile concourse condition vehicle, but a very good genuine Audi A8 that has been looked after and still drives very well indeed. This is not some dodgy dealer car with a host of faults or wear and tear parts that have not been looked after.

A good home and a Audi enthusiast would be welcomed as the A8 is without doubt one of the finest saloon cars ever made.

Before you buy any A8 I strongly recommend that you confirm a number of important tasks have been completed on the vehicle. If my car is not for you, that's fine but please use the list below on key areas to check on any Audi A8 especially higher mileage models as the work will need to be done.

In the last six months I have spent nearly £2,000 on the car doing all the wear and tear jobs that need doing, my aim was to keep this car a very long time hence why I have poured so much money into the car.

Points to note

• This is not a brand new car so please do not expect it to be. It’s a very good well used example but certainly not concourse condition.
• Whilst the air conditioning/ climate control works perfectly and is nice and cold there is not much heat in the car. The water pump and valves have been replaced but it appears the heater matrix needs to be flushed out.
• The front suspension has been replaced but on a cold morning the front anti roll bar rubber bush is worn and can creak and be a little noisy. This clears quickly when the engine has warmed it up but I will supply new bushes with the car.
• On occasion there is a faint noise from the rear wheel bearing, only happens on occasion and never got any worse.
• This is not a 1.0 Fiesta, do not expect it to be and be aware you are buying and running a car with a 340bhp V8.

I would like a FL D2, either a late 2.8 Quattro Sport with Final Edition wheels or a nice S8 with a good gearbox.

Must have those lovely black Recaros!

But then, just as it started to flag, along came a lowish mileage D2 FL S8 and I couldn't resist.

What particularly draws you back from D3 to D2?

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant.
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I do not enjoy driving the D3 as much and I love the seats in the D2.

The D3 MMI/ TMC/ Bose is much better but I prefer the D2 as a car.

Hugely detailed advert and great photos - it looks the mutts whatsits. You do say in the advert that you had intended keeping the car a long time but dont explain why you feel its the time to get rid of it? (I know you give the reason in your lead-in on the thread but perhaps dont want to say that in the advert?)

That's a great ad.
I think the large amount of paperwork should sell it.
Interesting you say about reverting back to a D2?
I had a d3 4.2 for 2 yrs....then sold it, convinced I needed an estate car for my young family (namely a 4.2 petrol or 3.0 tdi a6 avant), then ended up buying Mannyo's D2 3.7, as a stop gap car ( back in March) - which I love, but, I've just bought a 4.2tdi D3 (3 days ago).
I admit, you feel more at one with the D2, but, for me, the D3 luxuries win hands down.
Good luck with the sale.
By the way...isn't it Aurora Blue?

Oh....and I totally agree about the seats.
D2 recaros - sit comfortably on my journey to work.....
D3 comfort/sport - constantly fidgeting!

Thanks for the feedback chaps.

As for the colour its listed as N5 which I am pretty sure is Aqua Blue pearl Effect.

I will miss the stereo and the Nav with TMC. But as good as the D3 is you cannot love it like a D2.

Though I would have a BMW B12 6.0 7 Series if anyone has one lying about.
