Default Iphone with D2 stereo

Is it possible to plug an AUX lead in somewhere and connect my iphone that way or do I need to upgrade the stereo?

Thanks

You can buy various plug in units that replace the CD changer (a few will allow that to continue working) which allow limited control of an i-whatever to play music

Relatively straightforward to fit if you have the keys to remove the stereo - cable can route into the glovebox with no mods

I've installed a unit from XCarLink on my RNS-D.
More details in a recent thread somewhere....

These seem to get a good write up:

Virtually anything will require you to control the music from the device or do some strange organisations of playlists to make the factory head unit think it's a CD changer!

There's a nice install in the Laird's car which James did where his ipod sits in a cradle where the factory GSM phone sat in the passenger side armrest so lifts up to be easier to operate when the armrest is opened. Should be relatively straightforward to achieve if you're handy with wiring

Thanks, I'm shot with stereo's and wires. Might have to get Car Audio place to sort it. Unless theres any takers on here. Rather pay someone that nows an A8 than a random car audio shop.

If you just want the unit installing and how tidy the wiring is in the glovebox it's literally 10 minutes work to fit one. The fiddly bit is making it look OE if that's your bag.

If you run music off playlists and don't need to fiddle constantly with the i-widget then it'd be an OK solution to hide it in there.

I'm in Surrey and have the radio keys to remove a double DIN head unit

Ive got the keys to take out the unit, so I take it its just a case of buying a lead plugging it in the back and feeding into glovebox. I generally do play off playlists so this solution would be great.

Er, not exactly.
Wiring loom extension and adapter with clever box on the end to plug a lead into.
Likely well over £100.

You ID and remove the plug that goes back to the CD changer from the head unit - if it's replacing the CD changer you just plug your adaptor in there and feed over the top of the glovebox and in. If it supports the CD changer still it will basically plug inline between the head unit and you plug the CD changer lead removed into the other end of the fly lead supplied with the adaptor.

There should be instructions on how you then pick your ipod as your music source. Just bare in mind none of these solutions are likely to charge your ipod unless it has a specific ipod port. My old one, now in BrianG's car, had USB but only accepted memory sticks via that port, so had to plug an ipod in through the headphone socket so no control and no charging. Worth doing some homework on what you can do with the various device options to see if there's clear benefits of one for your needs
