Default Using the SIM card slot UK

I'm trying to get my head around the SIM slot, Audi cordless phone in the console, and using my own phone hands-free.

If I put a SIM in the slot, isn't it useless anyway as 3G is being turned off?

I have a SIM in mine and phones used in the car can then access the outside via the cars, more powerful, arial.

Thanks - so you can use your own mobile to route through the SIM in the car to make calls? (and data?) How does that work?

Yes, exactly so. When you've inserted your SIM, open the part of your phone that finds available internet connections and select your car. It will be called Audi and some additional characters. I can't recall the exact procedure but it is intuitive and takes you where you need to go. Good luck.

Thanks.

3G is already switched off and so is unavailable in the UK. I assume the service the car offers is 3G only?

I need to check. I can see that 3G is being switched off in the UK but I thought my car was still connecting. Hmm

It depends on your network! According to OFCOM (who ought to know):
Vodafone completed its switch-off in early 2024.
EE completed its switch-off in early 2024.
Three expects to switch-off by the end of 2024.
O2 is planning to switch-off in 2025.

I certainly regularly get 3G on my phone on Giffgaff (O2).

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Mee too. I am with Tesco(O2) on the phone and there are some areas around here that do not have 4G coverage(or signal is too weak) and it drops down to 3G. Or sometimes 4G is so slow because of weak signal, less than 1mbps that I manually force it to 3G and get 4-10mbps over 3G in the same spot.

I don't know what network Tesla use, it also often drop down to 3G but it's almost unusably slow when it does that.
