Default Location of standard amp

Hi all,

Referring to another thread of mine whereby one of my speakers isn't working (and it isnt the speaker that is faulty), I wanted to check the connections on the amp and find if there was an output on that channel.

My car is a 2007 A8L 3.0TDi with factory standard audio (not bose or B&O). My initial question is - where is the amp located in the car? I have seen reference to removing the battery to ease access but I thought all the equipment for sound/vision was on the opposite side of the boot!

would love an answer so I can investigate further.

Michael

I don't know about D3's, but in non-Bose D2's the rear shelf speakers have small amps built into them that power the other rear speakers.
(Might only be one speaker that has the amp, not 100% sure, but it's behind the speaker covers in the top of the boot under the parcel shelf)
Fronts are driven directly from the RNS in a non-Bose D2.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I believe its in the same location regardless of type and that is in the boot on the left side behind the cover. Same place as the satnav drive.

You'll see a large metal plate with multiple components mounted depending on fitted options. On my 2004 the Bose amp is mounted on the back, I suspect non bose will be the same except the for the facelift the mount points are different.

If its on the back access will require a lot of work removing bits before you can remove the plate.

Have you checked where the wiring passes through to the door from the main chassis, maybe one of the cores is damaged internally.

I'm going to sound like an idiot now but I did install the Fusion bluetooth adapter for streaming music and had to connect it to the red connector right at the back (for audio/video in) - what that unit the amp then?

The RED connector that you put the Aux In 1/2 and the Aux Out leads is on the TV unit.

Hi Michael, if you go to the "D3 Common Faults" section and look in "D3 Tech Dump", you'll see a reference to many PDFs, one of which is "18 Service Manual Communication". Although not obvious, this is the Audi service manual for all/most of the MMI equipment, including the various amps. It includes diagrams and connections.
