Default Out of shape tyres

My D3 is currently in having the NSR wheel bearing changed and the mechanic has noted that the front tyres are out of shape. These tyres were replaced with brand new ones earlier this year and have covered about 6K miles. He has described them as egg shaped.

For a while I've noticed that there is sometimes vibration from the front of the car and a weird braking sensation again sometimes. Looking for suggestions as to possible causes. I guess the vibration is because the tyre is no longer round, which could also be causing the odd feel when braking.

I am popping up to the workshop later this afternoon and he is going to show me the tyres whilst the car is suspended in the air.

What make are the tyres? Does he mean egg shaped in cross section ar when viewed from the side?

I had egg shaped tyres on a old car.
Apparently its a manufacturing or storage fault.

It can also happen if the car is left standing on under inflated tyres causing flat spots.

I don't think there is much you can do about them.

I've been to have a look at the car, its only one tyre out of the four.

If you watch the edge of the tyre with the wheel spinning you can see what almost looks like a flat spot. The tread pattern is even all the way round, there is just this odd point. Kind of like (gap between arch and tyre, 2 rotations -----____-----____)

This would explain the vibration and weird braking action, they suggested possible damage from a pot hole or similar.

Either way that tyre needs replacing, the tread on all four tyres is good so I'll most likely just get away with replacing one (I Hope).

Tyre brand is Kumho , these have covered less than 5K miles. Not sure on the chances of getting a warranty replacement (assuming tyre defect).

I had one like that a while back that my tyre man spotted, though I had noticed some vibration myself at times.
He took the tyre off and looked at the wheel, it was out of shape too, probably pothole damage.
Had the wheel corrected OK at a specialist alloy repair place, it wasn't badly dented.

Tyre was quite worn anyway so scrapped it in case there was carcase damage that wasn't evident.

I had a MICHELIN like this, I found the steering had an oscillation at lower speeds, wasted money on a new wheel only to find it still did it and got the tyre place to scrap a good wheel.

I've got the car back now, complete with out of shape tyre.

Now to source a replacement, I've decided to replace just the one as the other three are little worn so things should be fine.

I've just been to the local tyre place, they took the wheel off the car and stuck it on the balancer.

Result of that is that the tyre is fine, its the wheel that's buckled. The inner edge of the rim is all over the place, but fixable according to them. They have given me the details of a local wheel refurb place who should be able to straighten it out.

Now running on the spare which is in a pretty poor state of repair, but at least its round.

Exactly what happened to me as noted above.

Mine was straightened by a specialist company in High Wycombe which isn't local to you but wheels can be shipped of course. http://www.alloyweldcraft.co.uk/index.htm

I've emailed the local company, they are going to straighten the wheel only rather than a full on refurb, because the cost increases a lot due to the polished finish on my 19s.

Tomorrow I'll drop the wheel off and they will dismount the tyre, straighten the wheel then refit the tyre and balance it.

The local company doing this is Silver Wheels in Ferndown, Dorset.
