I think its amazing the way cars have grown in size over the years.
Put a D2 A8 next to a D3 and there's a massive difference. Although its hardly surprising when you think of the level of standard equipment in them now. Another interesting one is a MK1 golf against the new MK7. |

yea the MK7 Golf just looks so fat and the Mk1 its like its been on a diet
the older cars seem to be faster because as the cars get bigger over the years and more and more tech is shoved in them they seem to fail in upping the BHP to compensate apart from the W12 of course |

This is true. I drove past a parked up D3 whilst I was at work the other day. Turned round and had a cruise past at walking pace for a really good look at it. I couldn't believe the bulk of it. I couldn't compare it directly to the D2 as I was driving a work car at the time, but it looked massive. And for the mix of roads I do, I'd say the D2 A8 is about as big as would be practical for me. Bigger than that and I'd struggle down some of the country lanes near my house! But the market demands 'bigger' because they've confused it with 'better'. I suspect the next A8 will be even bigger! I walked into a Lexus dealership a little while ago, making a work related enquiry. Aside from being very impressed with the service there, I couldn't help but notice the GS 450h. It looked like something from a naval war museum. Massive slab sides, impossibly long, an ungainly look not helped by the high roofline and scrappy front end styling. I laughed about it with the girl at the counter, she candidly told me the new LS 600l was even more ridiculously outsized, but they didn't have any in because they were a very slow seller. |

D3 definitely looks (and in many ways is) bigger.. Really noticable when I had my 2 parked side by side on the drive for a while.

Funny thing is, when I had a D3 for several months I didn't notice any difference really - either coming from the D2 or going back to it.
And we've got plenty of small, narrow and even single-track roads round us that I use regularly. But then I swap between a Mk1 Focus and a D2 and don't really think about it - and they are VERY different in size! (see picture)

Good to see you using the D4 to protect your D2 from that white van.

I swap between the D2 A8 for day to day use and new and last generation Astras, Ford Focii and Mondeos at work. The Audi feels substantially bigger than all of them in, not so much to drive but to sit in and waft about in. Sometimes it does give away it's size on the road or in a tight car park. But I definitely get into the work cars and think "gosh, it's tight in here!". I'm thinking of swapping over a Peugeot 106 Rallye, either as a compliment to or a replacement to the A8. I must be mad, now they are small! |

That photo is insane, I saw it on your FB yesterday. Guy, what are you doing with that A4, what's the deal with your D2 - I see it is coming home?
