I read on a BMW forum that it is brake fluid and is flammable so if you crash it blasts everywhere and explodes.

A quick Google search revealed:
http://www.norosion.com/evanstest.htm The appropriate paragraphs: Because Evans waterless products are 100% glycol, they are slippery when spilled or leaked onto pavement. Assuming a baseline friction co-efficient reference of 1.00 for dry pavement, the friction co-efficient of water, and water with No-Rosion, is 0.65. (No-Rosion does not appreciably alter the friction co-efficient of water, when used at the proper dose.) The friction co-efficient of Evans products is 0.16. Evans products are 4 times more slippery than water. Race tracks now ban the use of engine coolant that contains ANY glycol. Instead, they require engines to run straight water coolant. This is one of the reasons why the Evans products can not be used in the engines of vehicles that are operated on a race track. The other reason that Evans products are prohibited at race tracks is that they are flammable. They have flash points in the range of 225-232oF. This means that if Evans coolant were released at or above the flash point, it could ignite. Because we observed coolant temperatures in this range during actual operating conditions, this is a real risk. On a comparative basis, straight water with No-Rosion has no flash point, and is not flammable at any temperature. |

Interesting that the Norosion explanation has a solution which works with their product... lol
Evans is only really of benefit if you start with an absolute water free system. They sell you a product which will de water the system but that then become prohibitively expensive. Which on an old car is nigh on impossible, even if you rebuilt the engine there will still be traces of water somewhere in the cars system. However I rebuilt my motorbike last year, replaced absolutely everything and am using Evans. It won't cyclically deteriorate (hot and cold) the rubber pipe work (all was replaced) as it doesn't expand when hot. It won't over pressurize the system also. It won't corrode aluminium the way water does if the mix is incorrect. It never needs replacing (if you drain it, you can reuse it) The system never needs topping up, unless there is a leak. So on that basis for my needs for my bikes it is perfect but would I use it on my S8.... no |

Many thanks for the responses guys.
Was thinking of using Evans Waterless Cooling on my boat engines which are Caterpillar 3208 V8s developing 425 HP Will think this through again carefully.
