Default Best ever mpg?

Id just like to announce that i am in shock from the mpg i got out of the 8! Left my house and reset the trip, small run through town then onto motorways etc for a constant run at 60-65mph.

Im flabbergasted how easily it does 40mpg. Kinda hit a wall at 43.

And its the 4.2 tdi

Before anyone says the Mrs took the photo

I did best ever on mine as well on the way to Scotland - 27mpg on 1997 S8, could not even dream about it and that, normally getting 15-16 locally.

I got 45.6 in my 3.0 the other day- couldn't believe it!

I'd usually be happy with high 30's.

It's a diesel on the end of the day, engine designed to be used in farming equipment so farmers can spent as much time in the field without filling up

It's a good score and once I attempted 60-65 mph run on a motorway resulting in 34mpgs, but thanks God I left my shotgun at home, otherwise I would have a massive hole in the roof from splashing my brain against it

On the way up (Scotland this weekend), we were doing just under 80 on average inc few 50mph limits resulting in 30.2mpg (480miles run)

On the way down I couldn't be bothered and I was hiting 12mph in Sport having so much fun on A82 from Tyndrum to Glasgow from the point when we split for the ones doing the boat trip and me on my own, and 80mph for just over half of the distance from Glasgow to London and rest of it 90mph. This wasn't as ''impressive'' as 30.2mpg, but when I checked last time it was bouncing around 25mpg and then I just couldn't be bother anymore, didnt care about the mpgs, cost and economy

How do you guys get bored driving at 60/65? Just relax chill out with some tunes on

You know what they say only boring people get bored

Tractor engine Marcin?! Someones a bit peeved that a diesel is quicker than their petrol

In all fairness i was sat at 85 on the way back, until the new golf R came up behind me - had a little play with that one!

There is something psychological about sitting at 5-10mph under the speed limit on a motorway that makes it soul destroying, happy enough with it on an A-road (usually), but there's just something 'not right' about it.

I fully agree, there is that psychological barrier, driving 65 feels so weird, were 80 is very acceptable and enjoyable to a level, but I found 90 to be my perfect cruising speed

Boring people get bored, hmmmm, only cool people will get bored traveling at boring speed

Diesels they may or sometimes are faster but not always, I AM SERIOUSLY NOT TRYING TO OFFEND ANY DIESEL OWNER, but , what sounds better, a V8 petrol or V8 diesel
How often do you hear people saying, Oh, I love the sound of a Diesel!!

Plus I am please with my smaller V8 especially after recent run which resulted in 0-60 in 6.9sec

On a serious note, it's people choice and preference and no one ever should be ''discriminated'' for it, we all love our ours and we have them for all sort of reasons (economy, power, sound) , no matter if its a 3.0TDi or V12 TDi or 6.0 petrol or 3.7 (The New 7.3 ) petrol
