MMI help pls!
During a long journey from Lancashire back to High Wycombe last night.....
All systems working fine, sat nav on, then all of a sudden...blank screen! The screen didn't want to retract either. On pressing any buttons (radio, nav, tel...etc) the screen briefly came up with "Audi MMI". I pulled off the motorway for a quick stop, hoping that the screen would retract with ignition off.....not so. Not being able to look at car or plug in vcds until sat afternoon, does anyone recognise these symptoms or cast any light on this fault? Just for info, the lights in the radio, TV, tel, etc buttons were also dead. I hope it's just a fuse.....if the MMI has 1? Thanks....in advance!

MMI system is built on a fiber optic ring.
If any single component fails, or has a fuse/power failure, the whole MMI shuts down. VCDS is the best way to diagnose. At a push you can unplug MMI gear one by one and use a loopback adapter or modify the fiber run to bypass each device until it fires up. Bose amps were a common issue on early cars. They often died leaving everything else offline too..

Have you tried the three finger salute to force the MMI to reboot? Probably won't work if it's completely dead but worth a try.
Setup + control wheel (push) + upper right corner button

I had similar issue not long after getting my D3, MMI decided whilst using Satnav to start constantly rebooting and it would not stop even after removing the key.
To fix mine, I simply disconnected the battery and left the car for 5 mins and then reconnected it. Solved the problem 18 months ago and it's never happened since.

Thanks guys.
I will be connecting up vcds tomorrow, but, in the meantime will be on the hunt for a loop - My local TPS have them in stock. A very knowledgable forum user gave me advice over the phone this morning and said all of what you guys have mentioned and said the more common failures tend to be radio and CD changer units. However, I should have bought a loop ages ago! Thanks again.
