Red face Oil Low Level on DIS

Hi Folks
My FL S8 is suffering from the slow weep of oil from the o/s rocker cover.

So, no surprise when the 'oil lo level' caution message came on.....

I stuck about three litres in, and its still on! Level looks OK, but not overfilled on the dipstick.

Warning is still on, and car running sweetly.

I'd stick in another quart or so, but can the engine be damaged by overfilling???

Might my auto oil level warning system be malfunctioning?? How to reset?

Confused of Langbank....

I'm not sure, but does this have to be reset with the VCDS?

Definitely don't overfill!
I can't remember the reasons why though
Something to do with the oil pump pressure?
And something else about more oil ending up in exhaust and damaging the cats?
hopefully someone who knows what they are talking about will be along soon.
The highest I have had it was just at the upper plastic orange stop, and I was worried but nothing happened.

When mine came on I just topped up and it went off, no VCDS reset required.
Maybe the mechanism is "stuck" and after a bit of flushing through it will reset itself?

Definitely seen warnings against overfilling so don't do that!

Don't know if its the same for the A8 but with Golf's, A3, Passat etc the vehicle needs to see a bonnet open and close before it resets. Might be worth checking that your bonnet is showing open/closed on DIS.

Well, I must have overfilled it, as noticed myself laying a bit of a smoke trail on the M8. Backed off to 2000rpm and it stopped, but clearly I'm not going far without removing some oil.

Monday, I'm going to remove the thing from the sump, clean it and see how we get on.
