Default Car mileage dilema

So guys would like to know your opinion
My a8 got nearly 142K on the clock. I really enjoy it, done lots to it and really want to keep it. My darker inside is keep thinking about them miles. Shall I get something with smaller mileage next year? Or not to be bothered with the clock?
UK market seems is all about mileage, also if it is a V8 buyers just don't want to know. As looking from my experience if car got more then 150K for most buyers is a junk, had few cars with "high miles" was a bit of a mission to sell. Am I wrong?

I have always bought on condition and history, miles are not that important within reason.

250k etc would worry me, but 150k would not (bar cambelt if its due). I have had 2x D2, 1x D3, 1x C4 100, 1x C4 S6 and 1x BMW M5 all over 150k and not had any major problems.

Buyers either "get" the D2 or not, and 98% of car buyers out there want to buy a nice Diesel hatchback for £7k that does 50mpg and they like the colour.

The mass market is never going to touch a D2 or a D3 no matter what the miles it has, they want a Golf or a Focus as that's what they think they should do according to What Car.

In short, the best cars in the world tend to stay under the radar and get bought by people who know.

That just sounds perfect to me.

Stick with what you've got, if it's a good one - you know it and how it's been looked after. Unless someone whom you know and trust is selling another one that's a lot lower mileage, that is…. (unlikely).

Treat these cars with care, and they tend to repay you.

Couldn't agree more

It's all about maintenance and preventive maintenance in my case especially.
I would rather have 150k looked after V8 than a 100k 2.0l

My 8 has 150k now, and I was driving 8s with much less mileage running rougher and gearboxes being not really as smooth.

It's like a human body, if you look after your self, keep fit, eat healthy, you will probably enjoy nicer and longer life

I've got 144K on the clock of my D2 S8. I get it serviced properly and have the gearbox service done by a ZF specialist every couple of years or so. The cambelt is due for it's second change (probably after Xmas), but that's not such a big deal.

I'm not even thinking of changing it. Even if the gearbox did give up, I'd spend the money on getting it sorted.

I just sold and A2 with 196K on the clock.

Yes. 196K.

Thing is, it had been well looked after and well serviced and drove brilliantly. I was so confident about it I sold it to a mate of mine who wanted a run around for the missus.

Mileage isnt the overall important factor like it used to be.

It works both ways, sadly, you can get low mileage dogs too where people really dont look after em.....

So @ 142K miles it might put other people off buying it as they are tarnished with the mileage brush, but if its going well for you, stick with it

Good man - spot on. They're better after they've been rebuilt anyway…
