Slippy transmission again
Hi Guys,
My slippy transmission problem is back again, its was intermittent but now seems to be around all the time and at 144444 miles, I am getting concerned about failure! Basically transmission has never been that smooth, usually a bit of a jerk on gear changes, occasionaily the only way you know its changed gear is by the rev counter, which I guess is normal for the rest of you! In addition when driving it along, it will sometimes over rev, during light acceleration a bit like slipping the clutch then lock up (I'm assuming this is the torque convertor) and carry on as normal. If you use TIP and force it to stay in say 4th doing say 60mph then give it light acceleration it will speed up, but when you take your foot off, you get a little over rev and a small increase forward, then back to normal. I have just been googling and some have said the Air Mass sensor maybe to blame, and cleaning it might fix it, anyone tried this? Is it easy to do? I guess its somewhere in the air intake hose. If you drive it hard, in auto or TIP it behaves itself perfectly, no slip, and loads of power, (its fairly rare I drive like this- nice to know its there though) On top of this, I have noticed the whine which has always been there in reverse, is now there was well in D as well, but not there at all in Neutral. Anyone got any ideas? I know the whine can be an ATF issue, I did have it changed end of last year, this then caused a leak (you could smell it dripping onto the exhaust) and I took it to a transmission specialist who fixed the leak and then topped up the ATF and said he thought the box was fine. Any thoughts / experiences welcome, I am about to spend a load of money on tidying up the bodywork, so would be interested to hear your opinions! Thanks Wayne
