There will always be an extra unoccupied connector; I read in Bentley in the "extras" or "Misc" or some other obscure place that there is a transport module in the left trunk panel which is plugged in for shipping the car which must be removed during prep.
I wanted to subscribe to this thread anyway since I have a friend who has a remote; now he "only" needs the MMI to have a remote MMI. He has the rear seat entertainment system.
