Opinions differ on this from some negatives (it's not really an SUV, all the "cool" geek features have been dropped in favour on "conventional" (!) Model S design elements) to some interesting pluses/unique features (better front grill - Model S owners are slightly jealous - Falcon door, and that glass roof). It also looks less ugly than expected...
It's not cheaper than the Model S though, and will probably be a bit of a niche market, but in a different sector to the Model S (Q7/RR/premium people carrier market). Not for me though. |

I had heard it was expected to be cheaper than the model S, shame it isn't. Could have become more widespread.
Falcon doors just don't appeal to me. I'd still go for the S, without any hesitation (If the wife wouldn't kill me for blowing all my savings).

The falcon wing rear doors in action. Fronts are regular hinged.

What is the point in that, when I first seen it I was under the impression that all the doors were up and out so you could indeed have it parked like in the above picture but if you can't open the bloody drivers door then it's falling short of the mark somewhat.
Shame because car park spaces on the UK are just far too tight in my opinion and a falcon wing door makes life easier in that situation.

And what if you've got to make a quick exit/entry when it's bucketing down with rain or snow

They demonstrated the car automatically opening the doors as you approach

Quote:
Had a test drive booked (read other thread, a hybrid) at a dealer that was adjacent to an Audi dealer on a "tight" industrial estate. Was warned that the Audi dealer regularly "stole" this companies parking slots - I told them I would arrive IN AN AUDI and park in their spaces. Arrived, found several empty slots (after wriggling past a ****-load of Audis) and parked in the dealers bays next to one of their cars. The spaces were too narrow, especially for a D2 so I left a considerate space for the adjacent vehicle with a reduced empty slot on my drivers side. When I returned about an hour later someone had parked one of their cars within about 3" of my drivers door. I presumed, and told the dealer so fairly stridently, that it looked like someone had rudely assumed I was a cheeky Audi driver and decided to block me in, but that even if true that was not good customer relations or a good advert for their company. Lots of grovelling and very quickly the offending vehicle was moved so I could get in and leave.
