Hi Markr you registered sim on three network? I phoned three yesterday to confirm Sim was activated, it works fine in my phone (I'm using it to post this). When I put it in the car nothing seems to happen. What did you do to create car WiFi hot-spot?

That's my thinking but I can't work out how to input settings into the MMI. There is a data connection subsection in telephone which is selectable and seems the likely place to input apn details but half the options are greyed out and the half that aren't are either view only or won't let me change anything. Networking, Access Points etc isn't a strong suit for me and the many hours reading and fiddling, so far, have been fruitless

The GSM radio in the MMI unit can be quite fussy/restricted network wise - especially on the early cars where it only supports 2G. Maybe try a different network than three!?

Thanks for the suggestion Paul, I can certainly give that a go. I've tried two Three sims and two ID Mobile which I've just gathered are also on the Three network.. I've got a Vodafone for work..... Off to play with that

.... and Vodafone connected immediately. Relieved and grateful for the suggestion. Bit fagged off about the sim though as I've got no real use for it if it won't work in the car.

Happy to help You can change the GSM radio in the MMI unit, but probably not worth the associated cost!

Yes when they launched they made a big thing about their 3G infrastructure, seems old hat now though.
The good news is that 2G will be around for a long time, likely a long after 3G has been switched off I should declare, I work for Vodafone |

Is it possible to get a 2011 Car to support 4G with a Vodafone Sim rather than 3G which it currently runs on ?
