Whining like a Honda…..
As per the title my d2s started whining like a Honda……
More so on cold start the last few days. Settles a bit once warmed up but still can get a little now n then if I try give it a bit too vigorous welly. Also increases whiny tempo with revs … Thinking a belt or pulley ? Any ideas, as always, greatly appreciated!

Take off the accessory belt and start the car, see if the noise goes away

So update, my local garage I use has really ****ed me off this time.
Put car in for service and asked them to look at this at same time… Instead of actually looking at what was cause they’ve just taken my inexperienced suggestion that it was maybe aux belt and replaced it. My mobile mechanic guy had had a quick look and thought possibly power steering related. Needless to say still whining although it’s a bit different to what I was experiencing before. Looking under bonnet I found a clamp that had sheared off (fresh metal for the bolt head) and was left sitting on the aux belt, and looking in today I notice one of the pipes the clamp was holding back is now touching the fan….

This wasn’t there before so could only have happened when I’m for service and when they’ve fitted the aux belt (trying to remove clamp to get access for belt.).
The pipe in pic isn’t the one touching, but one underneath this.

Get them to compensate you for it and fix it yourself.
One thing I have learnt in my D2 ownership is to do all the work yourself because others will alwas screw you over.. there are exceptions to the rule like MJ ofcourse. This my cam cap that was just smothered in silicone and blocking oil galleries, there was more to it; I had the cam covers done twice by 2 different mechanics and they both leaked, I've done the cam covers myself now, learning as I do it and the engine is dry now... so yes, you can do a better job of something yourself as you're learning it, than some idiot with 20 years of idiot experience: |

I think I’d feel more confident doing stuff or at least trying stuff if I had a ramp. I’m not the most nimble for being able to get under and in about things and I’m a bit heavy handed even when trying not to lol….
These guys have usually been really good, worked on my cars for the last 3 years….

That nut usually snaps off the thread these days. I cut the nut off to save the thread. Unfortunately that belt cover is non-trivial to get off to repair it, but the broken stud can be drilled out and replaced. For now, best to just cable tie the hoses in place.
