New Discs - still got a vibe
Any idea what would still cause vibration when applying brakes - new discs and pads fitted, everything balanced on front. Only get it (through the wheel and pedal a bit) when braking from higher speeds, don't notice at slow speeds - manifests itself as a 'grabby' feeling at low speed. Ideas?
(Think I have CV joints on way out -specially on offside - can they be related?) |

nope.. sensors all clean and its definately feeling like a contact vibe.. harder you push, more vibe, like.. warped discs.. but .. they are new!?
(Don't have the painted calipre issue that someone else on here had where the pad contact faces had been painted!) |

could it be something front suspension / bush related? if not then try swapping tyres around?

yeah thats a good idea. I have a slight turning left knock aswell.. see other post.. which could be ball joint related although got new Track rod ends, and just got it MOT'd with nothing noted
Got a new tyres on the front as they were low and all balanced up.. so its fine when driving along, just weird vibe when braking. Had sort of ruled out bushes etc as it will do it at low speed, to a stop. i.e. creeping along with some brake pressure you can almost feel Grab...... grab.... grab.. through the peddle (which of course is a proper vibe when braking off a motorway or from higher speed) not shaking the car to bits by any stretch, but not right. I'll have to get under the front and try shaking everything when its jacked up, and maybe swop over the front wheels see what happens. It was worse pre new pads and discs, but still a brake pedal pushing related vibration somewhere. annoying Last edited by harpersimon; 23rd April 2009 at 10:00 AM. |

You haven't managed to flat spot a tyre or buckle a wheel have you?
Seen it before where the tyre balances, but because it has a flat spot it still vibrates a bit. |

tyres are 2 weeks old, and never been locked up (ABS stops that happeneing) and I am not a race driver..
Might try fronts on back swop around to see what that does.. I still think brakes / pads / something. Will have to check wear pattern, all the joints eetc but need the car all weekend so its not going to be in bits this weekend thats for sure |

Was chatting with a mate about tyres this morning.. He just had to get some replaced for a similar sounding problem on his TT. The garage had been storing them vertically on the floor rather than on their side, so they had a flat spot top and bottom. Not much, but enough to notice.

it couldnt be wheel bearings perhaps? if you think about the fact that its no longer the discs that can be warped then the next thing in line that might be loose/worn or cause a wheel imbalance might be those? if not then suspension bushes would be my next direction

did you clean your disc with brake cleaner???
check if you have small smears on the discs on both sides,it has a tendancy to grip the pads and cause a vibration. |
