Bonnet locked, cable broken
Hi, I hope I Can get some info... the other day my release cable broke, but it's not broken in the cabin, it's broken up closer to the latch. And I've been completely unable to do anything about it.
I found lots of results googling, but none were specific to my car - 2006 A8 4.2 so none of the suggestions quite worked out: - in the wheel well, I couldn't reach in to grab any cables or the little black box - removing the belly pan, there's no room to reach up and release anything or grab the cable. So I'm hoping that somebody here can maybe post a picture of their latch, so at least if I do find a way to reach up in there I can have a visual guide as to what I am probing for. Or even better maybe somebody knows the trick to getting that thing open. I think on the smaller cars there was room to reach under or around things and get at it? thanks in advance! -David |

I'm going out now for the rest of the night but I will have a look tomorrow to see if there is an obvious way to get at it with the lid closed, without resorting to a 9" angle grinder.
In the meantime perhaps this will help if you haven't came to it yet. Del |

thanks! but that was actually the first thing I tried. However on my car there is a blue plastic bottle of some kind just inside the wheel well, above the air compressor, and it blocks any access to the cable shown in that drawing. I think I'll try to remove those, whatever they are...

I will have a look in the morning to see if there is any other means of access to the catches.

Not looking good for you.
Had a look under the lid this morning and took some photo's.
The access can only be described on mine as impossible, the pictures show the end of the cable and lever arm on each latch , but honestly I have no idea how your going to get to them as bodywork, rad grille etc are all in the way. Your only hope I think is to try and pull the cable splitter off via the driverside wheel well, if you can reach up behind the headlight and pull the cable that feeds into the splitter. Gooduck |
