Default Front Suspension Knock

Well ladies and gents after buying a complete set of top suspension arms for the front after a few months I started to get a knock when cold when I drove over bumps.

Had a look today and it looks like the front left upper arm is not well and the bush has come out!

Bloody thing!

Never mind, time to buy another Front Left Top Suspension arm!

Depending on the damaged you might need the top bracket that they all bolt in to as well.

I had the same thing happen to my A4. All 4 top mounts went and had to replace the top brackets.

If you mind me asking, did you buy a known name brands of arms?
I know the eBay specials only last a couple of months.
I always recommend myele HD arms.

Another question to ask is if the bolts were torqued up with the arms being in correct angle. If they are done in the wrong angle they can get too much twist when car is lowered on wheels and rubber delaminates from metal. I know a friend who changed arms on his A4, tightened bolts while the wheels were still in the air, went to MOT couple of days later and failed because rubber had come loose from the metal in bushes.

What ainarssems says it very important. Many if not most garages don't seem to realise this which is why I do them myself after seeing them in the past and having to intervene which is a bit embarrassing for all concerned..

Well as many wise men have said, never buy cheap parts!

New Front Upper suspension arm fitted this morning, a more expensive one has now been fitted.

To give you an idea on the one that was removed:

Much better now, though still the odd knock but that's from the Anti Roll bar so I suspect the C Links will be next.

Jesus
That is bad.
Mine cheaper ones from GSF were gone within 9-12months but only the bushes were badly cracked and split, making that horrible noise when they warmed up because of the engine's heat.

I still need to do the C Links as they knock, also as the weather has now turned cold my god does the front suspension creak!

I need to get the C Links done as I am sure they do not help, plus look at the other bushes on the anti roll bar as I am sure they are the cause of the squeek and the creak!
