It used to be recommended that new tyres went on the front as was the end that did most the work, however now that most cars are front wheel drive and have been for many years now and the art of holding a car sideways or knowing what to do when a car hops out it is deemed a front blow out is easier to control than a rear one. So new tyres recommended to go on the rear.

How old are the tyres? Tyres can age remarkably through UV damage, so could be considered for replacement even if they've plenty of tread

To be honest I'm not sure how old they actually are - they were on the car when I bought it four months ago. I might move them to the back and see if there's any obvious difference to test them.

That's the other thing I was going to add, recently the car started to feel a bit harsher over bumps / potholes, and I couldn't figure out why. Unrelated to this it occurred to me to check inside front tread depth, and sure enough tread was completely gone on inside edge. I bought two new (used) SuperSports with plenty of tread left and put them on the front, suddenly back to nice bouncy ride over bumps.
So unless I'm imagining it, tread depth also affects ride quality. Especially if theres none left |

Do what most do and have two sets, typically using the 18's mainly for winter. Though some only use the 20's for high days and holidays.
Coincidentally I have a fully refurbished set of PF Avus 18's for sale that were indeed my winter wheels... http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9858

Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. There should be a 4 digit date code on each tyre - 2 are short week so 01-52 and short year code after
Aged tyres do get hard over time
