Yep - that sounds familiar. Only ever happened to me when (a) it was cold and (b) hadn't been used for quite a while. No issues when without conditions (a) and (b) together, and not recurred since before I mentioned this in my previous post on this thread.

As if it will not do with only one issue, eh?
At least you can use the car while waiting for an opportunity to fix the problems

Here's hoping it's just the contact terminals that need a clean-up, particularly as this unit was only replaced with a new one in 2017

I cleared an F125 fault on car that had be stood for a while by putting the gear leaver through all it's positions repeatedly but gently at speed. Worth a try if the codes point to the F125 switch.

Thanks Mike, no VAGCOM here, so can't guarantee it's the F125, but i'm pretty sure that's the case. It was persistently showing this for three days in a row, even with gentle persuasion, which I've not had before. Then it cleared yesterday, and I took him for a good 20 minute drive then, making sure I exercised the 'box without thrashing it, but now it's back again, so I've left him with my local (trusted!) mechanic to see if cleaning the contacts helps.

I think I may have an F125 issue.
when I put it into D nothing happens. when I press the accelerator, the car thuds into gear... PRNDS is the only option displayed. feels like it then starts in 2nd gear, possibly limp mode, seamless gear changes, reverse not an issue. I have seen the threads re. the F125 removal and replacement, but want to check the connector first. is checking the connector something the can be done 'easily' ie without the removal of brackets, mounts etc ? does F125 have a part number? many thanks

Thats a mechanical problem unfortunately, not F125. It'll be going in to 4th gear and not changing.
If it still drives in limp mode then its likely either the first clutch drum thrust bearing, or the o-ring in the same assembly rather than a broken drum. In terms of gearboxes, thats relatively straightforward to repair since its all just behind the oil pump. Getting the gearbox out is more of an ordeal than fixing it - not a driveway job but something which could be tackled by an advanced DIY-er. |

many thanks for your reply.
I am happy to do fluid, brake etc changes but gearbox removal is something I would refer out.. as per your diagnosis, is this something I need to seek the services of a gearbox specialist ? thanks again for your guidance
