So,
Little update. The Yuasa battery after 3 days on trickle charge is no longer holding anything above 11.2V. Odd as the little indicator is still showing green as in "OK". New battery on (Varta as the link MJ supplied) cranked over and fired up no issues whatsoever. Checked alternator output........ None. Now I remember when backing the car down the drive there was a rattle from under the bonnet for a few seconds, then went away. I thought maybe the cats have blown on the offside but now thinking maybe the alternator has given up?? Pulley belt is fine and the pulley spins on the alternator but no output. Will check on this later as I have to pull the suspension on this side so might as well take the alternator out for further investigation. Many thanks for the suggestions.

Is there any inertia if you spin the pulley by hand? If the pulley is fine then its likely the regulator has given up.

My alternator failed by pulley free wheeling both ways.
I have a spare refurbuished alternator with brand new bearings, valeo clutch, new regulator and slip rings if you need one |

I'm not tackling it this weekend but once I know and if you still have it I may take you up on the offer

Yeah I keep it in the boot as a spare, I'm just too paranoid I should probably buy a spare fuel pump and a gear box as well and keep it in there

Little update. So I fitted the new battery (as MJ's suggestion). Good voltage, car fired on the button, idled for a bit. Checked voltage 11.8V. so not charging. Connections good. Car back to idling like a pig, battery warning light on, EML flashing - car dead.
Physical inspection - Alternator has pooped itself, spins both ways so looks to be the same issue Ronin had a while back. So that is going to a WIP. I am just hoping I have not stuffed the fuel pump, although on the key turn with the good battery I still hearing it 'doing its thing' so thats good eh?

Soooooo,
Just pulled offside suspension, 4th one I have done and I follow MJ's method of dropping the lot and tearing it down on the bench, no real issue there. Cup of tea and quick read up on the procedure for removing alternator..... W....T....F! it says drain the coolant as well? Am I reading this right? Quick look and I am not seeing the point - its tight up there but surely I can work round this? What say you guys?
