Considering what above was spent on 4.2tdi would cover my fuel bill fir more then a year (i do aprx 300miles a month).....
So do we "risk" to owe the s8 or similar ?
I had two w221 chasis S classes 3.0cdi and did let them go - egr, turbo, manifolds, oild cooler, dpf, injectors. Each of them I spent 3k in parts and they were still playing games. Black one had 74k on the clock and grey 54k
Of those costs not much is attributable to the diesel........ egr maybe? The rest could have just as easily been a petrol car!

yup... agreed.

and to add, mine is a one [celebrity believe it or not] owner car with Audi service history all along.

I share some of your sympathies and agree with comments made... something to bear in mind in the second hand car market is maintenance cost/bills... the higher the [original] cost of the vehicle the higher the maintenance cost is/will be. And again, personally, cost to repair still outweighs depreciation cost of a brand new vehicle .

...something that was appealing to me until I just read your comments...!

either a 7-series or Jag XJ maybe a more prosperous pursuit.
