Ooft, a broken seatpost can be a pain in the aris Heard of it happening on a couple of occasions but glad I've not had to endure it on my cycles. Coast to coast on a BMX is serious stuff, even I'm not daft enough to attempt that
At the moment I actually own N+1 bikes, the correct number according to Velominati Rule#12 and if Mrs 47p2 counted them I would be in sheep dip I've never tried mountain bikes although my daughter bought me a fancy Giant hybrid a few years ago to encourage me back to cycling. In the 2 years I owned it I rode 20 miles on it, I hated it with a passion and it was another year later before I dug out my old Peugeot and started being a 'roadie' again. 6 miles a day is good, it keeps everything moving and a bit of regular exercise which helps sustain the NHS coffers. 20 miles on a mountain bike is impressive, took me 2 years to achieve that, well done I really enjoyed the Sky Ride, it was a fast pace for 40 miles and I only wish I had the legs to keep up with the car, although I did manage to finish just a few minutes behind the leading group and well ahead of the peloton. Not bad for an old git who broke his back 15 months ago

It was a pain in his aris, as you can well imagine! I described him as eccentric, he's maybe more extrovert than eccentric. I'm not surprised the post snapped, looking at the size of the backpack he was lugging along with him
I had a Marin mountain bike for many years, I did the C2C on it in 2007, so I know how much effort it takes. He raised a good bit of money for the Childrens Heart Foundation so it was worth the effort. I replaced the Marin with a Cube Aim 29er a couple of years ago and its getting plenty of use. Cycling to work means I don't use the S8 so I do it in all weathers. I regularly clock up over a 1000 miles a year which saves me in the region of £350-400 annually in fuel plus the wear and tear of those short journeys that don't even get it warmed up, so it's a win win for me

So your n+1 has exceeded the s-1 upper limit?
Still trying to get another n+1 snuck in, but I'm fancying a Di2 gearing system as constantly re-indexing my 105 setup is a PITA, so the costs are a smidge high. Think the last time I rode my mountain bike was about a year ago for 20 miles or so.. after the first 3 I was knackered.. felt like I was spinning like a hamster in a wheel, but going nowhere..
