Hope it works out for you.
There's something very unpleasant down that next to left hole, as you know!

Thanks, and thanks also for going to look at it I'll let you know when I'm picking it up.

Oh also, thanks BarzyA8 for the find in the first place

How hard can it be?

Congrats! I hope you get it up and running one way or another.

I cant quite make it out in the picture, is that a swallowed sparkplug?

No the plugs are out and I didn't quite line up the camera, but looking down into the cylinder the top of the piston looks "wrong" - lots of shiny bits!

That's not necessarily as bad as one might think. I had a cam belt go and all 16 inlet valves connected with the pistons. There is a photo of the piston tops on here somewhere after I polished them during the rebuild. 16 new inlet valves later the engine was once again running and in use. The valves are designed to bend on impact to protect the piston crowns. If the engine needs a new home?

Well done Mikkijayne
I was watching this right up to the end of the auction, to see what it finally went for.
Glad it went to someone on the forum, who will bring it back to life, rather than break it.
Love the Avus Silver and Red interior, but then I am very biased.
Will look forward to seeing it back up and running again and at one of our meets.
Happy days.

November seems to be 'Dead S8' month - I bought mine this time last year, nearly to the day!

The engine in this one is fish food. Looking at the shiny chunks down #6 its very likely the head and block are done for, in which case I'll park it out the back of the workshop until a good used engine turns up.

I'm not likely to keep it tbh, as while I adore the interior, I have had enough silver Audis to last a lifetime. Plus I already have my grey one which is virtually brand new underneath. I would love to put the interior in mine, albeit with black bits instead of grey, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to corrupt an FE by putting a black interior back in. That all depends what its like when I get it on the lift.

The 2.7TT swap I think needs to wait for a late FL 2.8QS which isn't silver
